MARINE CARD OH&S GENERAL INDUCTION COURSE
NEW BIA MEMBERSHIP SERVICE FOR MANAGING RISK AND SAFETY FOR EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS AND SUB-CONTRACTORS.
The NSW Occupational Health & Safety Act 2000 and environmental considerations contain CRITICAL RESPONSIBILITIES FOR EMPLOYERS, EMPLOYEES AND INDEPENDENT CONTRACTORS. These responsibilities continue to be vigorously monitored and prosecuted with stringent penalties.
BIA reminds members that the OH&S Act has requirement for:
Promoting OH&S in the workplace
Providing systems of work that are safe and without risk to health
Preventing industrial injuries and diseases
Protecting the health and safety of the public in relation to work activities
Providing rehabilitation and maximum recovery from incapacity of injured workers.
YOUR OBLIGATION
You must make every endeavour to protect the health and safety of fellow workers, yourself, visitors, contractors, site personal, customers and tenants.
The BIA Contractors Package and Marine Card Induction Training Course will assist members in meeting their legal obligation and guide you in maintaining a paper trail of the correct records.
The Marina Association of NSW, a division of BIA has developed a generic Contractors Package, Guidelines and Checklists to assist all BIA members in meeting their responsibilities under NSW law. This package is an excellent baseline to provide a framework for a self-evaluation process leading to developing a safe work methods statement and consistent documentation. This package of tools will evolve and be updated to meet future requirements.
The format is simple and easy to use it is just a matter of adapting the information to make it your own. With this process it will give members an opportunity to review and streamline their approach and systems to Risk and Safety.
This information package is applicable to all businesses conducting repairs, maintenance and other services and provides an induction program for: -
BIA Members and their Employees
Principal Contractors and their Employees
Tenants and Sub-Tenants.
BIA will be launching an induction program and introducing a MARINE CARD. For the system to be truly effective Employers should be requiring contractors and others to attend the Marine Card Induction Training Course.
A Marine Card will be issued as recorded proof of completion of our Marine Occupational Health and Safety General Induction Course. This will be of great benefit to members to encourage employees, principal contractors and their employees to undertake this course and alleviate you from going through the detail legislative requirements and responsibilities. On production of a MARINE CARD you will be required to conduct a site-specific induction to identify safety issues at your site and collection of essential information and sign off.
KEY BENEFITS
Being able to produce risk management plans specifically relating to your business.
A consistent approach to safety documentation management.
The ability to include employees and contractors and sub-contractors in the consultation process regarding risk, safety and health issues at your site.
The ability to undertake self-evaluation to determine your progress and compliance with NSW Laws.
If you are a Principal Contractor at a site you will be required to complete a Contractor Agreement. Before being issued with a Contractor Agreement you will need to provide details of your insurance, referees and a Safe Works Methods Statement. All of these requirements will be covered in the Marine Card Induction Course.
BIA RECOMMENDS THAT MEMBER-EMPLOYERS/SITE MANAGERS ATTEND THE MARINE CARD COURSE PRIOR TO IMPLEMENTING THE PACKAGE OF PROCEDURES.
